Croatian Pepper Cakes - Paprenjaci


750g plain flour

1 tsp cinnamon
250g butter, cut into small pieces 1 tsp clove
200g caster sugar 1 tsp white pepper
200g ground walnuts 2 egg yolks, for brushing
2 eggs walnut halves, to decorate
2 egg yolks  
3 tbsp honey  
1 tsp nutmeg


Croatia Cooking Recipe

Makes 20 Pieces



Preheat the oven to 200ºC

Sift the flour into a large mixing bowl. Add the butter and rub into the mixture. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix to a smooth dough. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.

On a floured work surface roll the dough out to 7–8mm thickness. Cut into rectangles and transfer onto a greased baking sheet. Brush with egg yolk and decorate with walnut halves.

Bake for 15 minutes and then place on a wire rack to cool completely. Arrange the pepper cakes on a plate and serve.
